The GGSouthAsia2024 Call For Projects is NOW OPEN! Find the application form below.

This CFP is managed by the GGSouthAsia2024 committee

GGSouthAsia2024 aims to democratise genomics across the South Asia region by providing researchers with access to genomics technology. We provide foundational training in genomics techniques and open science, supporting scientists and building lasting capacity for impactful genomics research.

GGSouthAsia2024 bacterial genome sequencing

Deadline: December 19th 2024

Scope: non-pathogenic, culturable bacteria

Before applying, please do take some time to review our open-science expectations and our organism eligibility information. Eligibility is informed according to the World Bank and modified according to current FCDO advice. We also welcome on a case-by-case, individual requests from unlisted countries and territories in the region, provided they meet the established criteria.

We will only support:

Active, well-described projects on non-pathogenic, culturable bacteria that would benefit from whole genome sequencing.

Projects led by researchers based in South Asia countries. We particularly encourage early-career researchers to apply.

Illumina sequencing of upto 10 strains characterised to species-level by a recognised method (16S rRNA / Biochemical etc.)

Do not apply if:

Your organism of interest is not a non-pathogenic bacteria and your project does not require whole-genome sequencing

You have not characterised/genotyped your organism(s) to species-level

You do not intend to publish your data on open science (free-to-publish, free-to-access) repositories/platforms such as NCBI and Zenodo
